B&W picture of me

Hello ...

Hello.  Mrs Tubbs, aka Nicola Wood (ie Me) is 50 mumble.  My husband, Rev Tubbs, is the Baptist Minister of a small church.  My daughter, the Tubblet, is at Secondary School.  I work full-time as a researcher for a financial services company. We live somewhere on the ThamesLink line.

When we started the journey that turned Mr T into Rev T, I posted on Ship of Fools.  The late Kenwritz, sent me this message:

“Doesn't that [being a minister’s wife] entail you going 'round to ill parishioners and spoon-feeding them nourishing soups?
Mentoring the Infants' Bible Class? Ditto Church Mothers?
Also, how are your pot luck organizing skills? You ought to brush up on your vestry and altar decorating knowledge, as no doubt you'll be asked to head those committees.
If I were you, I'd start drinking heavily now”.

Decided to start blogging instead.  All drinking heavily gets me is a hangover.  Someplace Strange, is about anything that takes my fancy.  My views are my own and I represent no one but me.

What it's all about ...

Posts about family, food, politics, fashion, beauty, books, religion, simple living and anything else that takes my fancy appear twice a week.  Except on school holidays when one post appears.

Advice posts are always written on the assumption that you take what's needed and ignore the rest. We all have our own flavour and path.  Let's try travelling with kindness.

Besides, whenever I write about anything, the universe finds ways to keep me humble.  Post about friendship, have a blazing row with someone.  Post about food waste and have larder shame ...

To make finding what you want easy, posts are indexed:
  • Beauty.  Makeup and skincare.  Cruelty-free.
  • Blog.  Advice about blogging and ramblings.
  • Brand.  Sponsored and collaborative posts.
  • Favourites.  Posts featured in Linkys or made for a Blog Award.  To encourage me when I wonder what's it all for ...
  • Fun.  Doctor Seuss: You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So get on your way!”.  Things to do as you go.
  • God.  Christianity and church life.
  • Life.  Everything that doesn't fit anywhere else.
  • Rants.  Attempts to make the world a better, fairer place or things that make me very cross.
  • Simple.  Minimalism and simple living, gratitude and thanksgiving etc.
  • Wear.  Fashion.

FAQs

Why are you called Tubbs?

When I first started using the Internet, the done thing was to use a nickname rather than your real name.  When I was trying to think of one, there was a postcard of Tubbs and Edward from League of Gentlemen on my desk.  Tubbs seemed like a good idea at the time and it's stuck.

Why is this blog called Someplace Strange?

Finding the right blog name was really hard!  Someplace Strange started life as "Bit of a Slob" before turning into "May Contain Imperfections".  The third time was the charm.  As well as being an excellent description of life, it's also the title of a weird and rather wonderful graphic novel written by Ann Nocenti, illustrated by John Bolton

You're a Christian?

Yes I am.  This cartoon explains, very simply, what I believe in three frames:
