Like most bloggers who are parents, I'm doing less on the blog during the summer holidays. But there are few things I hope to get done to make things easier come September. You could do some of them too. If you like:
- Work though ideas and brainstorm content. All bloggers aim to write a blog they'd want to read and create content they're proud of. Honest, kind, respectful words. Beautiful pictures. Whether you're window shopping for a life you'll never have or looking for something little more "real", there's something out there for everyone and room for everybody. (You could even batch write some posts, take oodles of photos and do a bit of content planning as well. Total over-achiever).
- Update old posts with new photos, titles, information, indexing to improve SEO. Delete any posts that are out of date or no longer relevant.
- Change your profile photo and re-write your About Me page. If you have other pages, have a look at those as well and update if necessary.
- Get active. On social media and on your favourite blogs. Look out for new, like-minded people to connect with. Have an online space that's full of happy. Or do the reverse and un-follow people who make you miserable, cross or have mean thoughts.
- Up-skill. Practice using the features on the camera on your phone or photo editing software, learn about meta-tags or how to use Buffer etc.
- Look at your blog design and layout. Move things around, delete anything that's no longer needed and make sure everything still works. Then open an Incognito window in your browser to view your blog as a first time visitor with no cookies. Then consider whether you really want that many pop ups or ads just there ...
- Consider your posting schedule. You may be posting x times a week, but circumstances have changed or you want to invest more time elsewhere.
And lastly ....
- Get GDPR ready. (That's 50p in the Blogger swear box). Even if you're outside the EU, if I can access your blog, then GDPR applies ... I have a handy checklist if you're not sure where to start. As many countries are introducing similar legislation, doing this now may help you be ahead of the game later.
Or you could do nothing, have a rest and return refreshed in a month's time. When I'm going through the (blogging) motions it shows eventually.
- Ensuring you write lovely things about your husband is a must. Your husband is awesome and must be spoilt.
As it is now summer holiday season, as I mentioned last week, Someplace Strange is winding down. There will be one post a week until the the schools go back in September when I have all the plans. Whatever you're doing, have a wonderful time and see you on the other side.

DeleteLove that your husband added that. I'm definitely easing off the blog a little over the summer. With work and the kids home there just isn't as much time!
ReplyDeleteHe's a one. I shall have to make sure he's not left alone with the computer in future! Enjoy the summer :)
DeleteWonderful tips. Thank you so much for this post.
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. Glad it was helpful
DeleteDefinitely some great tips. I'm still posting a lot, because I don't have kids so nothing changes much during the summer, but I still want to work on updating the blog. I'm currently figuring out a new About Me, etc. #bloggersbest

Glad it helped. Happy blog updating!
DeleteWe have some major changes in the works. Lots of work to be done for sure. These are some great tips that we'll be sure to keep in mind. #BloggerClubUK
ReplyDeleteAll the best for your major changes. Hope they went well
DeleteWe had a mid-year break 2 weeks ago and I only posted 1 blog post during that time - there was just no time. I think it's important to stay abreast of things in the blogging world. Some great ideas here #dreamteam
ReplyDeleteI've just had an unexpected month off and posted nothing! Time to reboot.
DeleteSome great advice here....especially about older posts. I think we forget about the value of older posts sometimes.
ReplyDeleteBeing a teacher, I have more time in the holidays so will be blogging more! #pocolo
I look back at some of them and am really quite proud of what I've created. It's a very odd feeling ... Hope you had a wonderful holiday :)
DeleteI really need a new profile picture and to update my About Me page....Fab tips!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Hope they help
DeleteEvery month I pick an old month of posts and edit them. It's amazing how much better you can make a post you thought was great at the time. #DreamTeam
ReplyDeleteI've not done that, but I do have a quick peak at the older stuff every so often to make sure it's still relevant and to remind myself of what's there for backlinking
DeleteFab tips X #pocolo
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI think I go through waves of being more productive than others. #BloggerClubUK
ReplyDeleteSame here. I've just had a month of doing absolutely nothing!
DeleteHa - isn't it great to have a husband that's a comedian, and no doubt very lovely!! Thanks for joining me as co-host, much love x
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. Finally done my comments. Only a few months late.
DeleteOrganisation is my biggest downfall! I’m working on that. I’m interested to learn about Buffer, I’m going to look into that.
ReplyDeleteI'm still confused. The theory is fine but the practice isn't going so well.
