Rev T and I have been together for nearly 18 years and we still go on dates. But not on Valentine's Day because we're not paying £80 for a meal that usually costs £40. No wait, that's not the post I was going to write ... Now returning to your scheduled post ...
It's easy to get into a relationship rut with chores, DIY and childcare taking up the time that used to be spent going out, being together and having adventures. However long you've been together and whatever your circumstances, it's important make the effort and keep dating. To keep that spark of romance alive. You just have to find something that works for you and your circumstances.
We don't manage to do this very often, but it's lovely when we do. Just hanging out together, eating nice food, doing something new and having a proper discussion. By ourselves.
- A picnic. Grab some food, drink, a blanket and find some grass in a sunny spot to sit on for a long chat.
- Recreate your first date. Ours was a drink and a meal in Covent Garden and a ride on a carousel.
- Special dinner. Take a trip to the supermarket and buy the ingredients for your favourite dinner then go home and cook it. Set the table nicely, light some candles and break out the wine.
- Pretending to be a tourist in your home city. Spend the day holding hands, wandering about and taking terrible photos. Museums and art galleries?! Hell yeah!
- Takeaway and cinema night. Order your favourite takeaway, choose a film or box set and away you go.
Hope you're all "enjoying" half-term. Look forward to seeing you on the other side!

We've been together over 20 years now. We haven't been on a date in 6 years.... This must change and you've given me inspiration. Sarah #mg
ReplyDeleteNo dates in 6 years?! That certainly puts things in perspective and I'll remember that next time I complain. I hope you manage to get some together without the kids time soon
DeleteTake home cinema nights are my favourite. We feed the 3 children and set them upstairs with there own movie, then we have Thai food and watch a movie downstairs. Sometimes we do it as a whole family, but it is nice to have couple time. On a recent anniversary my parents had our children and my hubby recreated our first date, it was so sweet of him. So happy you could link up with #mg
ReplyDeleteAh that's lovely. :) We did our first date a while ago although the actual bar in Convent Garden is long gone and they don't have the carousel any more.
DeleteMany times our "dates" are grocery shopping. Ugh! I need to do better at planning special moments with my husband. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWe also have a weekly date at Sainsburys. It's not the best, but it's still us time :)
DeleteThanks to a problematic work schedule, I ended up cooking an easy meal and we called it a night! It was still great. #DreamTeam
ReplyDeleteSounds excellent! We had an M&S meal deal :)
DeleteWe need a date in the worst way! No kid sitters... Maybe you will have inspired me to make it happen. it is very important! XO #mg
ReplyDeleteI hope so :)
DeleteLovely ideas, especially the one about being a tourist in your home city. Sometimes we forget to appreciate the places where we live. thanks for sharing with #fortheloveofBLOG
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see those places with new eyes. It does make you appreciate them more
