Come Outside

Thursday, 8 February 2018

“Look up, look down, look all around, up in the air or on the ground, come for a walk, come for a ride, there’s so much to see, so Come Outside.”  *

Duck Pond

We love good long walks.  (Or in the case of the Tubblet, a good long, short walk).  Getting outside somewhere green and filling our lungs with fresh air makes us feel better.  Our heart rates slow, our souls feel refreshed and we feel like we could tackle anything.  Apart from, maybe, the ironing.

The lake near St Alban's Abbey is one of our favourite places to go.  It was a cold, but not too cold, day.  After a week of being cooped up at work and school, it was just what we needed. This is another of my thin places.

Time to slow down, meander and be together.  Family, alone or down time is important and sometimes you have to make that happen.  Or you spend the whole weekend doing chores, rushing from activity to activity and it's Monday again before you know it.

Followed by a hot chocolate.

For those participating, enjoy half-term and see you on the other side!

* Come Outside was a BBC children’s programme that was made from 1993 to 1997, then endlessly re-run.  The two main characters were Auntie Mabel (Lynda Baron) and her pet dog Pippin. They went on adventures, usually in Auntie Mabel’s small colourful spotted plane.  In each episode, you learnt how something was made or how it worked.  There was also a sub-plot, where Pippin gets up to mischief without Auntie Mabel knowing.  Once Pippin hid a bar of soap to avoid a bath.  The Tubblet loved it.  I've no idea why the song popped into my head whilst I was writing this post.  But it did.

I used to watch come outside with the children when I was working as a registered child minder, it was educational so I think it should be made into a new series #blogginggoodtime@_karendennis

It was such a good series. The Tubblet and I used to really enjoy it. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it

I remember that show - my little brother loved it.
I couldn't agree more and I've made a concerted effort to go out walking or running somewhere beautiful every week, it definitely is good for my soul.

It's a great thing to do. We're really lucky to be surrounded by some lovely countryside where we live. Enjoy!

We love getting outside too, it's essential for good mental health, especially when you have children - they need to let off steam! Although it's definitely been a bit cold for my son lately - there's been more than a bit of whining! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

So true. The Tubblet has just got glasses and been told she needs to spend at least 2 hours a day outside to help with her vision. She is utterly thrilled ...

Nice post, and it's very true that you need to make time for these moments/experiences, or time just passes you by.
Also, we love 'Come Outside'! Penguin is watching the 'Fish' episode right this moment 😊x

You can't beat a good long short walk, so I'm with the Tubblet, and if there's hot chocolate too then that's a winner. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo
