Today I thought I'd do a tour of our bedroom as you so enjoyed looking around the kitchen. It's comforting to know that most people are as nosey as I am . Our bedroom isn't remotely Pinterest worthy either, but it's cosy and comfortable. A place to bundle up at the end of a busy day and have a good sleep. With lots of blankets and cushions.
We have a good bed, mattress and bedding from Warren Evans. We try to keep objects displayed in selected areas so it doesn't look too cluttered. There isn't a TV. The furniture - the wardrobe, bedside table and chest of drawers - was bought in the pine shop down the road a few years after we got married. We went there because we didn't want something we'd have to build. It's shared. Half his and half mine. A reed diffuser keeps it smelling nice.
Apparently, having an uncluttered, tidy bedroom with not too many distractions is helps you get a better night's sleep. As would Muffy the cat not meowing to be let in at bedtime because he's lonely, wants some company and the best spot. Or meowing to be let out in the morning because he's hungry and needs feeding right now.

The next section of the tour is usually done as a YouTube video but no one wants to hear my South London accent or be treated to swears half way though when I forget myself. Here's a close up of the top of that chest of drawers:
Makeup wise, I stick to soft, neutral colours with a rosy cheek. But red lipstick makes a sneaky appearance now and again. Products come from Urban Decay, NYX, Pixi, Lipstick Queen, Barry M, No 17 and MUA. I built my own eye-shadow palette at Urban Decay. (This gives me an collection that works, with no waste, that's brilliant quality. Not very cost effective option in price per shadow though).
Skincare lurks at the back and gets applied morning and evening. Mostly from Superdrug's Optimum range. Effective, reasonably priced, no patronising anti-aging messages and Leaping Bunny. Serums come from Deciem or Indeed. Putting makeup on without a good, study routine to get it all off again alongside a bit nurturing is just asking for a grey, tired, spotty looking face.
I have two mugs of brushes. One in use and one to either wash or clean and ready to go. They're swapped over at the beginning of each month. The brushes have been gathered together over years and come from Jemma Kidd, Becca, Sonia Kashuk, Real Techniques, Body Shop and B at Superdrug.
There are no clear, plastic drawers. Makeup is kept in a wooden fruit bowl bought in a London market. Brushes, lipsticks and other items are kept in mugs picked up on holiday, fandoms or from exhibitions or in a glass jar the Tubblet painted. If things don't fit, it's a sign it's time to declutter.
Space is shared with the one piece of Lego I built, plus some figures I liked. A one woman and her Lego post is likely to be very short indeed. Rev T has some new bits I'll share once I've got some photos.
It is cluttered, but every item brings me joy or is used. I'm still downsizing so when I do this again in a year's time, it'll look very different.

How do you store your make-up? How much do you have? I'm still trying to work out if my stash is excessive, just about right or what ... And what does your bedroom like? Let me know in the comments or direct me to blog posts with pictures.
Oh my goodness how to do you get on with sharing that wardrobe! That would drive me nuts. We have separate ones thank goodness. Make up - I literally have a make up bag with my essentials in and I binned the rest....always so interesting to see other people's bedrooms thanks for sharing with #coolmumclub x
ReplyDeleteWe've been doing it for 17 years so we're used to it by now! It helps keep the clothing under control but I do have to protect my side from creep.
DeleteI love seeing how other people have their bedrooms set up. We have 5 wardrobes in our bedroom as Nathan has a tonne of clothes. I have just one of the wardrobes, and not only do I share that with our youngest, I also noticed that some of our eldest's clothes have snuck in too! AND a suit that Nathan bought last week. It's very frustrating!! LOL #ablogginggoodtime

Wow, five wardrobes! We don't have enough clothes between us to fill those! Good luck with reclaiming a little bit of space for you
DeleteI only have the make up that fits into a tiny make up bag on my window ledge. My daughter ont he other hand at 13 has a bedroom full! #fabfridaypost
ReplyDeletefar more make up than i have but then i did a massive decluttering after christmas and chucked loads of stuff away, how refreshing to see a normal looking bedroom and not one that's been staged for the perfect pinterest/instagram post. I have no idea how you manage to share a wardrobe, it just wouldn't work with us, but then we don't actually have any drawers in our bedroom
ReplyDeleteOoh I love a good tour around other peoples houses, I am so nosy! I love that painting above your bed!
ReplyDeleteOur friend D gave it to us as a wedding present. We were really thrilled. :)
DeleteMeant to add #sharingthebloglove
ReplyDeleteGlad it's not just me!
DeleteI do love having a look at other peoples house, particularly when they haven't been styled within an inch or their life and you just know they don't really live like that! I don't have a great deal of makeup, the stuff I do have is in my dressing table. Your room looks lovely, cosy and inviting #pocolo
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you liked it. (I did tidy it a bit though)
DeleteOoh I do love being nosey
ReplyDeleteI rarely wear makeup these days, only on rare nights out a couple of time a year, so I have very tiny makeup bag shoved in the back of the wardrobe somewhere. Mind you, even when I used to wear it everyday I never had much, one foundation, one powder, one blusher, one eye colour palette, two eyeliners and one mascara. I never wear lipstick as I don't think it suits me, I just put Vaseline lip balm on x

I'm trying so hard to downsize, but I do love the stuff. That seems a good size collection though. Something for me to aim for
DeleteThat's such a good idea to have the brushes on rotation! I seem to have loads of products, but barely use any. #coolmumclub
ReplyDeleteIt saves washing as there's always one clean set. (In theory).
DeleteThank you so much for revealing your lovely home to us. I must say the top of your cupboard is very similar to mind. lol! I love your authentic mirror and the wonder women mug. These are awesome! I am so jealous. I don't even have a make-up table. I just do mind in the bathroom - all from one tiny toiletries bag.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for joining us on #FabFridayPost x
Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it
DeleteThank you for sharing what your bedroom looks like with us. Our bedroom received a makeover and I featured it on my blog too. Since then I've fallen out of love with it. I think I want to brighten it up a bit and bring in our love of nature. #pocolo
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing the re-do. I'd love to bring some nature in, but I'm death to plants so it's kinder to let them be
DeleteI can never have too much makeup! I love organising my collection, and I'm definitely a 'more is more' kind of person! I'm really impressed you manage to share that wardrobe though - we have a triple and my husband is relegated to a tiny portion of it! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteWe battle over the space as he has more clothes then me! Honest!
DeleteI'm totally nosey too and loved your bedroom tour. Red lipstick is one of my favourite make up items and I wear it often although not as often as I used too anymore. Thank you for sharing with #StayClassyMama
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week :)
DeleteI love a good nose around people's houses. How do you manage with that wardrobe? We have a massive wardrobe and I have pretty much all of it. I love that picture above your bed! Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteWe do because that's what we've always done, but the out of season clothes live in a box under the bed. Glad you like the picture. I'll tell D it had loads of complements when I see him
DeleteOooo thanks for the tour - I am always so nosy about other peoples houses!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to #ablogginggoodtime Please join us next week too!
