- The end of the consultation process. At the end of March, work announced that my team was reducing from two to one. The formal consultation process ended yesterday and we're moving onto the next stage. Soon I'll know if I have a job where I'm at now or an unscheduled holiday, followed by contract work somewhere else for three months. (Provided I pass the background check). While I'd like to stay, I am so weary of it all now and just want it done so I can move on wherever. There is no winner, winner let alone a chicken dinner. If I have a job, my friend doesn't. If my friend has a job, I don't.
- Good weather. Hopefully there will be sun. I love warm sunny days where you can feel the sun on your face, go out without a jacket, slip some sandals on. and wear clothes that are made of linen rather than wool or cord. Everything feels fresher and cleaner. Then there's the smell of mown grass and the ability to sit outside whilst having a drink at a country pub.
- Summer clothes. Talking about sandals reminds me that I have a whole summer wardrobe lurking under the bed. Hopefully it all still fits!
- Light! Long evenings with lots of light. Nicer to travel to and from home in, easier to take blog photos ...
- Holidays. Our summer adventure is booked and paid for. I'll tell you all about it when we're done, but I'm so excited. It's going to be great fun! Holidays also mean that school breaks up! The Tubblet will have completed her first year at secondary school. She seems to have settled in well, made new friends but is ready for a break. Before it all starts again in September ...
- Food! Putting the slow cooker away and enjoying BBQs and salads. Ice-cream is a major food group, right?! My desire to eat all the ice-cream, in all the nice flavours, may conflict with some of my other summer related plans.
- Getting summer ready. Like nature with the arrival of swallows, the blogosphere signals summer is coming with a bunch of posts about getting beach body ready and recommendations for beauty products to help you look amazing all summer. Basically, all you need is SPF, some fake tanner if that's your thing, some nice body scrub and a moisturiser. And, as your toes and legs will also be exposed to day light for the first time in months, you may need a shaver and some nail polish. As posts about getting summer ready tend to be written by people who don't have small people in their lives, they assume that you'll have all the time in the world for pampering. But, as Pink Pear Bear shows in her post, Sun's Out, Mum's Out, the summer mum dances and gets ready to the beat of a different drum. A very fast drum.
What are you looking forward to this summer?
I am looking forward to being able to do free, fun things with my son including days lazing around at parks - rainy weather means being stuck indoors and it drives us mad!

That sounds lovely :) I'm so looking forward to seeing some sun.
DeleteOh I hope your job works out...sounds a bit rubbish for you and your friend! I'm a bit gutted as no decent summer clothes this year...more tents but I have painted my toenails! Need the fake tan now. Xx #binkylinky
ReplyDeleteIt's not much fun, but we hear on Friday. Whatever will be will be. I have guilt about wishing for sun as I was pregnant with the Tubblet over the summer and it's not much fun. Look after yourself :)
DeleteI'm not sure how much I'm looking forward to school being out, but lazy days by the pool and nights at the ballpark are sounding pretty good right about now. #binkylinky
ReplyDeleteThere is that! Long summer holidays are a mixed blessing. Thank you for commenting and have a wonderful week :)
DeleteI'm looking forward to spending the whole summer with my boys. Last summer I worked and even though I got to bring them to work with me it was not the same. Plus we had to get up early Monday - Friday. I'm looking forward to fun in the sun and maxi dresses. #FabFridayPost
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! I hope you find lots of wonderful things to do. Thank you for commenting
DeleteReading this had got me excited about summer, I love warmer and longer days. Not to mention lighter food and my favourite thing is to walk on grass with bare feet, bliss X #thelist
ReplyDeleteOh, bare foot on the grass. That sounds wonderful :)
DeleteI love long evenings too, as you said - great for blog photo taking - thanks for that - great tips. Sorry about the job situation - what a bum! Good luck with everything. I hope they would reconsider and keep the pair of you! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost.
Having poured over the business case, I couldn't find anything to unpick from it unfortunately. :( We hear on Friday. Thank you for the good wishes and for hosting each week
DeleteOh I am sorry to read about your job. I would say fingers crossed but like you say it is hard when it is just two of you going through that. We went through something similar with Mr C and we found out about the consultation the day I found out I was pregnant with Oldest. Like you say the process almost becomes harder than the possible outcome. Apart from that though it sounds like you are having a lovely month. Love the slow cooker and can not live without ours. We are so ready for the summer and spending evenings at the beach #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteAs I frequently say, it is what is ... The process is pretty grim and as we're part of a wider restructuring, it's very long winded. I hear on Friday.
DeleteSo jealous you get a beach ...!
Stopping over from the link up! Love this post, can't wait for the kids to be out for the summer - so much to look forward to!

DeleteI am so with you on this one! I love summer and can't wait to be out and about in the sun with my little one and having picnics with friends. The sunshine just makes all the difference doesn't it. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday xx
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine is a wonderful thing - it makes everything so much better :) Thank you for commenting
DeleteI love summer and it feels as though we've had enough cold weather and rain now! Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week :)
DeleteI am looking forward to lots of days out with my children and friends and evening walks at the beach.
ReplyDeleteHope things work out for you with the job x
#KCACOLS
DeleteGlad I'm not the only one who does that :) Thank you for commenting and the good wishes
DeleteOh I too am so looking forward to summer - BBQs, lighter evenings, summer clothes - oh shall I just repeat your list?! But I so agree! My son will also have finished his first year at senior school - how quickly has that gone? And just how grown up have they become in this year?! Hope your daughter has enjoyed it. Here's to a beautiful long summer #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteThank you :) It's amazing how quickly they grow up. I hope your son has settled and is doing well. Bring on the summer!
DeleteI've painted my toe nails and shaved my legs, I'm ready! Oh good luck with your job, it sounds like a no win situation. I hope things are resolved soon and you can all move on xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you :) We hear on Friday. Whatever will be will be
DeleteI am looking forward to spending quality time with my baby girl whilst on maternity leave.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your job. xx
#pocolo
Thank you :) Enjoy maternity leave.
DeleteGlad you're at least finally going to have an answer regarding the job - hope it works out okay.
ReplyDeleteI never look forward to summer. I just don't like it. Don't like heat, insects, light evenings, summer clothes. I like cold, snow, dark nights, jumpers and Christmas. I DO like salad, though, so that's something. (But not ice cream or ice lollies!) #fabfridaypost
Got my answer - I'm still employed. I've mixed feelings about the whole thing. Pleased to still have a job, just wish the circumstances were different. Thank you for the good wishes.
DeleteYou don't like ice-cream?! How is this that possible?!
A little bit late but maybe you could remind your readers that a body scrub with microbeads in is NOT a good idea! Go for a natural scrub such as those on this list http://www.beatthemicrobead.org/images/pdf/greenUK.pdf
ReplyDeleteI have some microbead body scrubs and am left with the dilemma of is it better to use them or throw them away? Either way the plastic is in the environment!!
Sorry, it's been so long since I bought anything with microbeads for the reasons you've mentioned, I didn't think to mention it. I've a bathroom post coming up shortly, so I'll add that in. Thank you for reminding me.
DeleteNot sure about what to do with the existing products. Would your local green group be able to help?
