As you may have gathered from reading Someplace Strange regularly, I'm a bit of a homebody. My home and family are my sanctuary. Everything I love is here. I was thinking about doing a post on what makes the prefect night in. Films, books, blankets, music, snacks and a nice drink ... Good stuff! Night in sorted.
We're in a slightly usual position as Rev T's job means we know lots of people locally. He visits local schools, helps out at toddler's and the local food back. We live in The Minister's House. I know not everyone is in the same situation. It's nice to feel part of a community and anything that helps with that is a very good thing. Have a look at CORGI site and pick up some ideas ...
If you've got any good experiences of making friends in your neighbourhood or any other tips, let me know in the comments.
As part of their campaign to make us more friendly and neighbourly, CORGI HomePlan kindly donated a carbon monoxide alarm system worth £40 for me to giveaway. A nice way to celebrate Someplace Strange's birthday too!

What a great campaign - and a handy giveaway too! Thanks for linking up to #sharewithme hope to see you again soon
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting. Hope you enjoyed doing it :) It's a lovely campaign and I hope it works :)
DeleteI love the idea of living in a little church community where the Rev knows everyone and I imagine your life to be filled with tea!! To some extent we have more of this out here, expat living, compound living, you introduce yourself to neighbours, people in the street you see talking English....!
ReplyDeleteRev T doesn't drink tea and I only drink Earl Grey and my cucumber sandwiches would look more like doorstops! I can see if you're an expat, you'll work harder as the community is so much smaller. Hope your move is going well!
DeleteI've been really lucky where I live and have a great set of neighbours, many of whom I've actually spent real time with rather than just saying hello on the street. I find that the days we are out the front gardening are the days we get to talk to most people - I guess people spend less time in their front gardens these days, which is why it's less common to know your neighbours. It's nice to feel part of a community though, so worth making the effort and finding a way if you can. #coolmumclub
ReplyDeleteThat's true - people spend less time in the garden and probably, come home later as work is further away. I'd never thought of that before. Well done for building those relationships, they're so valuable :)
DeleteWe are lucky enough to be quite friendly with our neighbours for the first time in probably forever but I know this isn't the case for a lot of people and it is SO important on so many levels. Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub lovely! x
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week :) First time I've been even remotely cool!
DeleteMy neighbour a few years ago genuinely came and asked for a cup of sugar and since then we have been friends haha! I entered your comp! Thanks for linking up :) #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteThat's fab! Good luck :)
DeleteI think that this campaign is great and I did a post on it recently too. I think it's such a worthy cause and I love that you've put your stamp on it in your post x
ReplyDelete#coolmumclub
I've seen a few posts for this and it's great they've all be so different. Hopefully they'll help spread the word. Loved yours
DeleteYour community sounds lovely! I grew up in a village (and my parents are still there) which is a bit like that, people are friendly and know each other. Now I live close to the town centre and our neighbours are pleasant enough but I don't really chat to any of them. Should make more effort really! #StayClassy
ReplyDeleteIt's worth giving it a go, but I can see it would be frightening if you didn't have an in, like being the Minister as communities are so different. Some are friendly and others not so much
DeleteWhat a great campaign! I don't know any of my neighbours - sure, we say hi if we pass each other in the close or need to drop off a package, but that's about it. I know it would be good to get more involved in my community, but my shyness gets the better of me sometimes! #StayClassy
ReplyDeleteI'm quite shy and usually hide behind Rev T when he's being sociable! It's a lovely campaign though, it's inspired me to make a bit more of an effort
DeleteThis is a great campaign! And yes, knowing how to break the ice would be handy. I am the same as you - a good movie or book and I'm all sorted for the night. #momsterlink
ReplyDeleteNow of course, it's an open laptop and a blank webpage ...! Blogging is a time consuming hobby!
DeleteFantastic campaign and a very cool giveaway thanks for sharing #stayclassy
ReplyDeleteThank you :) Hope you entered
DeleteI have never heard of this but what a fantastic idea!!!! #momsterlink x
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant isn't it? And loads of ideas you can use no matter where you live. :) Thank you for commenting
DeleteOh awesome entering the competition right now! You're right it feels so much better when you have a community around you that you are close with. I had this back home but in UK haven't really found that yet! Will have to take a look at the tips! : ) Thanks for sharing with #StayClassy!
ReplyDeleteHope they work for you in your new location. Thank you for hosting each week :)
DeleteAbsolutely fantastic campaign. I think we should all try to get to know our neighbors more and support each other in our own local communities. It should be our second families those are the ones that will look after you or your home if anything bad came up and vs. Thanks for linking up to Share WIth Me. I hope you will continue to link up when Mummy Fever takes over SWM on June1st. She is an amazing blogger and great blog supporter too. #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteAh, well done Mummy Fever for taking this on :) Thank you for being such a great host and enjoy the new things you'll get to do
DeleteNever heard of this but what an awesome idea and great giveaway too. Thanks for linking to #stayclassy

DeleteI have read about this before. Is it a UK thing? I don't know a single person on my street personally but I do know the vice principal lives catty corner to me and an eye doctor lives across the street. That's a out it lol. Thanks for linking with #momsterslink 💋💨❤️
ReplyDeleteit is, but I'm sure could work wherever you live. Thank you for hosting #momsterslink and I hope you've enjoyed your blog break
