I hear about my job on Friday. Whatever happens, at least it will be over and I can get on with whatever it is I have to get on with. I shall do my best to remember to post some sort of update.
In the meantime, here's today's post. Having talked about decluttering like a ninja and turning your home into a Pinterest perfect minimalist space, you've got another problem. (Ignoring the problem of what on earth do you do with all the toys?! So many toys ... Suggestions would be useful!) What do you do with all the stuff that you no longer want?

Most of us don't have a basement or a Room of Requirement, so here are some places to pass those things onto:
Give and Makeup supports organisations working with women who've fled domestic violence by giving them everyday essentials like shampoo, makeup as well as clothing, toys, underwear etc. Applying lipstick or a using a nice scented shower gel often makes me feel better. Many women fleeing domestic violence leave with nothing, so these items can make real difference.
Smart Works gives high quality interview clothes, styling advice and interview training to out-of-work women on low incomes in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester and Reading. They aim to help women find a job and move on with their life. The majority of women who use Smart Works find a job at their first or second attempt. Once they've got a job, Smart Works gives them a working wardrobe that'll last them a week so they're good to go clothes-wise until their first pay cheque. My mum bought me my first interview suit. Smart Works helps those who don't have that kind of support. Suited and Booted does the same for men and is based in London.
The local charity shop down the road accepts clothes and other items. My opticians collects glasses. The shoe shop in the city collects children's shoes. There are two second hand furniture shops in the next town who refurbish furniture and then sell it to raise funds. It's worth Googling to try and find new homes for the items you no longer want. What you find may be surprising .. My bras are off to a new life in Africa.
Do you have other great charities to recommend? Let me know in the comments. Seriously, I have loads of stuff to shift.

You've just reminded me I have a load of clothes that need to go to a charity shop upstairs and I'll be passing one tomorrow! I think I need to check out your previous post on decluttering, though, as I'm such a terrible hoarder.

I used to be, then we started moving regularly so I'm trying to keep those hoarding urges in check. Thank you for the lovely comment
DeleteI always try and find a home for items I am looking rid of. It's great to be able to give something away to someone who will appreciate it! #stayclassy
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to find new homes for things - elsewhere - and know they're getting used / doing good. Thank you for commenting
DeleteI love this post - pinned it to remind me what to do after the next clear out. Usually prompted by being unable to fit one more hanger in the wardrobe ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to #coolmumclub xx
Ah, thank you. I'm glad it was helpful :)
DeleteThese are really good suggestions. Usually we off load our stuff to the nearest charity shop rather than the specific schemes you mention. Your way is better!

It is more work and you do need some storage. I'm not sure when SmartWorks is next coming to work so do I keep the items or pass them on elsewhere. Rev T may make that decision for me!
DeleteOh these all sound like great suggestions! Smart Works sounds especially relevant to me, that's such an amazing idea. I have given away clothes to the local charity shop, I tend to hold on to clothes for years and years and years. ; ) Thanks so much for sharing with #StayClassy!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love SmartWorks, they do such great work. The talk they gave at work was really inspiring :) Thank you for hosting
DeleteGood timing as I'm planning to get rid of some stuff this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHappy decluttering! :)
DeleteGreat ideas for decluttering. I do like the idea of stuff going to help others.

Thank you :)
DeleteSuch great ideas, I never thought about shower gels and things. We all have excema and have to be careful about what products we use, we give lots of gift sets to our local charity shop after Christmas, maybe we could redirect them to Give and Makeup, at least then we know they will get used xx
ReplyDeleteI didn't either until I came across Give and Makeup. Now I pass on anything suitable to them. Have a great week :)
