Beauty Products - Save, Splurge or ...

Wednesday, 2 March 2016

The sayings, "You get what you pay for" and "Buy cheap, buy twice" aren't always true.  When I was younger, I'd think nothing of travelling across London to purchase some exclusive, high-end item of makeup that wasn't available anywhere else.  Now I dash into Boots and Superdrug during my lunchtimes, with the (very) occasional trip to Debenhams and House of Fraser.  Changed priorities. Smaller budget

Sometimes, more expensive beauty products are better than cheaper ones.   But not always.  Many of the cheaper brands are owned by more expensive ones so ideas and formulas trickle down.  The only difference is the fancy packaging and it coming from a counter rather than a shelf.

Makeup

Splurge

  • Foundation
  • Primer
  • Blush
  • Lip glosses
  • Lipstick
  • Makeup brushes
  • Eyeshadow

Mid-price

  • Skin Oils

Save

  • Micellar water
  • Face wash
  • Concealer
  • Powder
  • Body lotion
  • Shower gels
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Highlighter and bronzer

What beauty products do you save or splurge on?

I must say I'm finding with age foundation makes a difference now, though I still only wear it for going out. Interesting what you say is worth spending and saving on, I do like a decent conditioner but that may be just my long hair that I should probably cut! #ShareWithMe

Everyone's list is different. My friend spends a fortune on skincare and buys makeup from the likes of MUA. Thank you for commenting and hope all is well :)

I usually splurge on moisturiser. PLEASE GOD TAKE AWAY THE WRINKLES. Or if not God then, you know, Estée Lauder. #bestandworst

Oh yes, we all need a cream that helps with that. :)

My list would be so similar to this - over the years I've realised that foundations is definitely worth investing in and I'm with you on the shampoo/conditioner - I think the high street brands are just as good #bestandworst

My favorite product is No 7 Instant Illusions Rapid Radiance Balm. It's around £18 so not sure which category it would fall under, but I often get 3 for 2 at Boots, which makes each one a lot cheaper. It saves me looking too tired if I don't have time to do a full face of make up (which is most days lol) #bestandworst

3 for 2s and those buy one, get one half price / free offers are great. :) I tend to stock up when they're on as well. Not tried that one though, I'll have a look. Thanks for commenting :)

I I always splurge on eyeshadow palettes, concealer, and makeup brushes and save on foundation, powder and lip products. Almost the opposite to you! I definitely agree that higher priced products are not always better, sometimes they are, but often the drugstore alternative is just as good #Sharewithme

Fair enough! The most important thing is that it works and you're happy :) And it does - you always look lovely in your photos :) Thank you for commenting

I would have to say that my list would be very similar to you. I have always felt that splurging on foundation pays off, especially now I am getting a little older!!! But I do love to find a great beauty product on the high street. Thank for sharing your list! #BestAndWorst

If I could only splurge on one, I'd do foundation as I'm pale and many of the high street ranges are too dark for me. Everything else I could skimp on if I had too. And, like you, I love a bargain! Thank you for commenting :)

Interesting post, I have a right weak spot for expensive beauty items I have to confess but I do agree that sometimes you don't need to splurge on everything. I use alot of foundation daily so prefer to get a mid range tinted moisturiser or light foundation and splurge on post stuff for occasions out! I do love splurging on Bobbi Brown, Mac and brands like that....I can't resist!! Thanks for linking up #bestandworst

I've changed my habits a bit as now I'd sooner have less, better things and use them up before buying more. Sometimes though, it's just so tempting ... Because Lipstick! Thank you for commenting and for hosting each week :)

I have really sensitive skin so I have to splurge on things like moisturiser and mascara but otherwise eyeshadows and lip glosses go cheap. hahaha Thanks for linking up to Share With Me. Sorry to be late commenting we have my mother visiting from America. :) Thanks for joining in. #sharewithme
