Life Skills I Wish I Had

Wednesday, 3 February 2016

Be considerate

All this self improvement malarkey could have you thinking that I am perfect in every way.  (Rev T will shortly demand a guest post to tell you that I am oh so not.  It will go on for many scrolls.  So many scrolls).

Here are some life skills it would be great to have, but I haven't got round to acquiring as yet:
  • Feeding my body and soul.
  • Living within my means.
  • How to fail and learn from the experience.
  • How to argue constructively.
  • Being tidy.
  • How not to hold a grudge and forgive people.
  • Accepting a complement gracefully.
  • Acknowledging that I am wrong.
  • Learning new things.
  • Not falling over my own feet.
  • Taking criticism well.
  • Dealing with stress.

Let me know what life skills do you wish you had in the comments.  Or give me some ideas for dealing with the ones I don't have.

But if I can get this right, the other stuff might work itself out or not matter so much ...

"Be kind to one another.  Even if you disagree on stuff".
Ephesians 4:30-5

I would love all of these too! I wish I was a naturally neat and tidy person - instead my house forever looks like a bomb has hit it! My mum even got me a plaque for Christmas that says 'the house was tidy yesterday, sorry you missed it'! :) #sharewithme

I wish I was tidy too! I am seriously considering getting a skip ad throwing away 80% of our stuff. But then I would be, y'know, guilty about not recycling it all. Sigh.

I know that guilt. It's hard to keep it all neat and tidy. Thank you for commenting

I have to say that I am only just learning many of these and I am almost in my mid-forties! I think these are all things you can develop over time. In the meantime I would definitely read Marie Kondo's book - it is brilliant! x

Kondo's book has been on my wish list forever. I do want to read it. The videos are fascinating. My jumper drawer is a work of art! Thank you for commenting

I went to change a lightbulb in my shower and dropped the screws down the drain. I literally can not even change a lightbulb without screwing it up

It's a fabulous list! I think my top desired life skill would be mastering the art of wearing any item of white clothing without getting something down it that won't come out. Maybe someday, when we're all grown-up we'll have everything all fathomed out?

Oh yes! White and me don't go at all. I suspect you never get it all fathomed out. Although you might get better at winging it

Interesting that both taking criticism and accepting compliments are on your list, since they seem like two sides of the same coin. I would have to say they are definitely two things I could work on as well. I'd also like to let go of worry and control and be more free-spirited!

Also live within my means and be tidy or increase my means to the point that I can afford a cleaner. I also would like to be able to drive #sharewithme

I'm doing the learning new things but when I do them well I'm awful at accepting a compliment and when I don't I'm awful at taking criticism! It's a start though eh?! Great list :)

Maybe we could do it as a collective thing along side Cuddle Fairy's #nocomplaints day? These things are easier to do together. Although #nocomplaints isn't going that well ...

Are you sure you weren't writing a list of life skills I need to work on? All except the living within my means - I'm the cheapest person you'll ever meet, ever.
