And, having experimented with scheduling, I'm back! The publishing worked, but not the social sharing. Ah well! At least I didn't spam the world. As the weather is getting colder and wetter, we're trying to find ways to have fun that don't mean being outside for long periods or are only a short walk away.
Here are some of our favourites:
- Watch a box set or a film.
- Visit a stately home.
- Get out the blankets and make a fort, a nest or a cave or ...
- Read a book.
- Try something new.
- Make a stew or bake something.
- Start learning or doing something you've been meaning to do for years.
- Do that deep clean of the house you've been putting off for ages. Even the Tubblet's room!
- Work on the blog.
- Just bite the bullet and go for a walk. And hope it doesn't rain.
- Cheat. If the budget permits, go somewhere warmer for a few days. Which is what we did. During half term, we went to Madrid to celebrate our anniversary (15 years!) and my birthday (50!). Post to follow once I've sorted out my photos and written it. I returned to discover that work is experiencing their annual Restructuring Madness! (Like Reefer Madness, but with pink slips and P45s instead of drugs).
What are your favourite things to do when it's cold and rainy outside?

A lovely post - so hard to get motivated when it's cold and rainy outside. Our favourite thing is to light the fire and sit in front of it peeling apples and throwing the peel onto the flames. So cosy. #twinklytuesday
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a real fire otherwise I'd give that one a go. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteA book and a fire...bliss :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed! A book and a fire are a wonderful thing
DeleteGreat ideas for rainy days! We're in Spain enjoying some gorgeous sunshine at the moment so your last point really resonates with me but that said I'm looking forward to a toasty fire in our woodburner when we get home. Thanks for linking up at #sharethejoy x
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! I linked up our travel report today so you can see what we got up to
DeleteHmmm what do we do when it rains? Stay in have a pj day and watch tv.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me! Hopefully you're better at agreeing what to what than we are!
DeleteLovely list... when it's raining, we usually just have a lazy day at home and watch tv or film... #mg
ReplyDeleteWonderful! :)
DeleteGreat ideas. We normally get some paint/craft stuff out and put the telly on! #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteWe're not so crafty but the Tubblet still loves colouring etc.
DeleteHere in sunny southern CA we rarely get rain. And I LOVE rain. So I really wish we would have more rainy days. What I love to do when it does rain here is sleep with my window open. I love hearing the rain outside. And in the day, I will open up all the blinds in the house so that I can see outside. I love watching the rain hit our pool and make the water all splashy -- I love the rain. I should relocate to Seattle or Washington. Or Forks, since I'm a huge fan of Twilight and that part of Washington get the most rainy days, right? Yeah, I should move to where the Cullens are.
ReplyDeleteWe're willing to swop with you for a few months. That would solve your drought problem too ;)
DeleteFab ideas. I love Madrid. Bet you had a lovely time. I like to hibernate when it's rainy. A book or a movie on the sofa with a cup of tea and maybe a nap is my idea of perfection.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up to #fartglitter x
Thank you. We had a marvelous time in Madrid and have shared our travel post with this week's #fartglitter so you can see what we got up too
DeleteI love just getting snuggled up in the darker evening and binge watching all the good shows that start again this time of year. Pretty boring but I just like being cosy! #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteCosy is good! Especially in this weather!
DeleteDefinitely love to watch a movie on the couch with a throw blanket and some popcorn! I also like to host a dinner party ... assuming one can coax people out of this homes in the cold/rain :)
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves movie / tv watching :) I like dinner parties but need to be better at inviting people
DeleteOh it's definitely a read for me. My family also love to watch movies together - sometimes we'll take out the old family favourite and we'll watch it again even though we have watched it 50 times already! Hope to see you again @ #abitofeverything
ReplyDeleteWe do that too. It's great fun and it's amazing the films that the Tubblet hasn't seen that we can all watch together. We watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves the other day
DeleteA great list of things to do great post #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI love to do blog stuff, go to the gym!, chill out in front on the TV. Some of that is hard with the gremlin though! Hope your trip away was fab!! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst and see you soon x

ReplyDeleteExcellent ideas! :)
DeleteOh these are great rainy days ideas. My favourites has to be read a book or work on some blog posts. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteIt's cold and rainy outside most of the time in Ireland so we are staying in a lot. I spent the time watching a movie, baking, getting cosy.
ReplyDeleteMmm, baking :)
DeleteI love the stew and baking part although I'm not really a great baker but the smells of freshly baked goodies...just love it :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not a baker either and, like you, love the idea but ...!
DeleteBaking is top of our rainy day activities but I also love visiting stately homes and braving the odd wet walk :) #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteYay for outdoor walks!
DeleteOh I like this cheating idea, happy anniversary and birthday! We are having Spring here at the moment so we are making the most of the improving weather. Thanks for linking with #mg former mummy&us
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week. I've updated my linky list now and shared the travel update this week so you can find out how we got on
DeleteYou can't beat a good movie day! You've listed some great ideas here. Hope you had a lovely holiday, did you get to see the sun?
ReplyDeleteI tend to take the opportunity to work on the blog when I can. :)
There was sun! Not as much sun as we wanted, but more than here
DeleteI love it when it goes dull inside, but only when I don't need to go out the house. I love to get a nice thick snuggle blanket and lie on the floor with my little 10 month old. She's a little young for film days at the moment so I I just but the blanket on the floor with the cushions and let her climb and lie down and okay with whatever she wants. We do have a good old Disney film in the background too and I have a lovely warm hot chocolate. Thanks for a great post! #kcacols
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely idea! :)
DeleteTo be honest with you if you ask me what I would love to do when the weather is cold and rainy? well that will be travelling to another country with sun, beach and a turquoise sea!! But of course as you said this will be cheating!! But if I can't travel I like to have a hot drink underneath a soft blanket and do some blogging which is my favourite hobby atm. More than any tv (actually I don't watch tv since May!, crazy right?). Also cuddling with my girls is something that I love to do so we keep each other warmed! ;-) Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS. It is always a pleasure having you here! :-) xx
