I’ve shared the things that bring joy at home, but I spend a lot of time at work. This might seem a weird thing to post about as my work has announced an "organisational redesign" in the new year, but I'd already starting writing this and it's a shame to waste good content.
Whatever the outcome of the redesign, that doesn't change the fact I love my current job and the people are brilliant. If I'm outside the design, I'll mourn the loss. but it may be the kick up the career I needed to go and find the next adventure. Whatever that is.

Here are the things that bring me joy whilst I'm there:
Having an actual job
Given how many people would love to work but haven't been able to find a job, just having one is a tremendous privilege. Let alone one I really enjoy and that pays reasonably well.
Being able to be curious every day
One of my favourite things about being a researcher is that there is always some new piece of information, data or statistic to learn or find out. Once that piece has been found, that information has to be presented to the requester in a way that makes it meaningful and relevant so they can make the best use of it.
Contributing
As I work for a business, my requesters take the information I've found and use it to make decisions on various things. It's great when those decisions are ones that are positive.
People
My colleagues are all lovely, interesting and funny people who all work hard to get the job done. (Having worked, over the years, with people who work less hard and with some horrible bosses, this is truly a joy).
I'm self-employed so do a lot of my work from home (part of that is being a blogger), but I also run corporate skills training workshops which is great fun, but exhausting as it means being on your feet for up to 8-10 hours delivering complicated content. I sometimes worry about work and money, but overall I love being by own boss as it also means a lot of free time to spend with my family. I wish you all the best whatever the future holds for you! #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteNadia - ScandiMummy x
Thank you for the good wishes. This is the 5th restructure I've been part of and, this time, I am surprisingly zen.
DeleteThis is such a lovely post - sometimes it's great just to take a moment out and think about the positives. I like (most of) the people I work with, and I enjoy having some time away from housework / childcare / etc. It's nice when I'm able to help people, and it makes me feel really proud that I managed to get elected in the first place (I'm a local govt councillor). :) #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being elected! Hope it's going well for you
DeleteThis is a great post, I hope that it all works out for you whatever the outcome may be. I'm waiting to hear what's going on with my job at the moment myself although for very different reasons. I hope that it all goes well for you xxx #pocolo
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good outcome too!
DeleteHome time. Only joking. I work at home as an editor and am lucky enough to get to do the school run around it. Hope the redesign does not affect you too much. But listen the world always needs good researcher #coolmumclub
ReplyDeleteLOL! I've had a look already and there are some really nice jobs out there. I'm hoping that things won't change, but it will be whatever it will be.
DeleteHi, I just got made redundant! So what I love about my work at the moment is, not having one?! Which, believe me, is more of a surprise to me than anyone. Loving being at home with the kids, so will be putting off going back to work a while longer I think. Love this positive post, good luck with the redesign, and remember good things can come out of even the worst situations... x MMT Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub
ReplyDeleteThank you. Enjoy the time and I hope that your next job, if it comes to that, enables you to spend more time with the kids
DeleteI'm a violin and viola teacher/freelance musician, so I love playing music and working with kids (most of them). Also, my job is always challenging and different every day. Visiting from Weekend Blog Share:)
ReplyDeleteGlad you love it - on the whole :) Good to see you and thank you for commenting
DeleteGlad you enjoy your job on the whole :) Lovely to meet you and thanks for commenting
DeleteWhat a lovely post, the thing that brings me joy art work is leaving my patients happy and with a smile on their face, it makes my day if I can spend some time with a patient that has nobody else visiting that day. Lovely post and thanks for linking up to the #bestandworst :) See you again! xx
ReplyDeleteAh, that sounds lovely. Well done you for looking out for the ones that don't usually get visitors. I know Rev T usually asks who hasn't had a visit today and pops his head round when he does his usual visits. It must be so hard when others are surrounded. Thanks for hosting and see you tomorrow
DeleteLovely post and it's nice to share the things that make you happy in your work. Thank you ever so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again tomorrow for another great round! #sharewithme
