A few weeks ago, I posted about my bed-time routine. Life is so busy that I wanted to sleep better so I didn't wake up in the morning as tired as I was the night before. That's not good for those around me.
It seems to working well so far. I've also tried some other things to help me get back even more sleep:
No caffeine after 5pm.
No tea or coffee after I'm home from work as they can also spoil your sleep. (So can alcohol, but one change at a time!) There are sleep teas with chamomile, lavender and vanilla that help calm the senses and help the body get ready for a good night's sleep. (I just have to find one I like).
Have a routine.
I try to go to bed and get up at the same time each day. That seems to help. One of the things I sometimes do is have a bath with something relaxing. Lavender is good. That helps bring the body's temperature down which also helps. Apparently you sleep better when you're cooler rather than hotter as the body doesn't have to work so hard to regulate its temperature. So maybe it's time to buy some new nightwear. Shorts and a vest inserted of long sleeved pyjamas. I can always snuggle in a robe if I have to get up.
Writing.
A notebook and a pen are useful for all those wonderful strange ideas or must remember to do tomorrow that pop into my head just before bedtime. They either escape before morning or go endlessly round my head and stop me going to sleep.Mediation.
There are loads of guided meditations on YouTube to guide you though the relaxation process. I haven't found one that I liked yet. Apart from this Dalek Relaxation Tape. I'll have to keep looking for a suitable one.
Half of women experience bladder weakness in their lifetime. One in six say it disrupts their sleep. I'm not one of them, but if that's you, you'll also want some TENA Lady Maxi Night *. TENA Lady Maxi Night with Lie Down Protection, gives you Triple Protection from leaks, odour and moisture. There is now a Duo Pack that contains twice as many pads as standard packs so you don't need to stock up as often.
Things I have not done in my attempts to get a better night's sleep:
- Ceased attempting to read one more chapter of book before bed ...
- Stopped watching scary or cliff hanger endings on TV.
- Reduced my wine / beer consumption at the weekend
- Given up curries.
Fascinating, I think if you can do some of these things you are doing well, but life needs to be fun too so it's hard to do them all. I also have pen and paper by the bed and always read something trashy for a few pages before turning out the light. #PoCoLo
ReplyDeleteI agree, there's only so much you can do at once, but a few pages of something trashy at the end of the day is a must! Thank you commenting and thanks for the great post box craft
DeleteI have tried meditating in the past when i have struggled and that has been the best for me! I'm not suffered much from the old bladder weakness yet (apart from on the trampoline!!!) Not a good thought lol xx

DeleteI am having trouble falling asleep at the moment, I am just full of ideas and I get too excited to sleep, but then I am cranky in the morning. Maybe I need the notepad idea. #binkylinky
ReplyDeleteNote pads are great. I've never managed to find one that the Tubblet hasn;t stolen as yet.
