All I hope for when clothes shopping is to find clothes I
like, that don't make me look like a heifer at a price that won't make Rev T or
the bank manager cry. I also want them to be made to last. Ideally
not by children or in a sweatshop. See, not much.
I like clothes in the same shop to be sized
consistently. So I know that if I pick up three items in the same size
that they will all fit. Instead, I get one that fits perfectly.
Another that hangs off me like a sack. And the last makes me
look like I've tried to cram myself into one of the Tubblet's outfits. The last outfit takes 15 minutes to carefully remove as I'm terrified of ripping
it. Or having to squawk, "A little help ..." at
the sales girl so she can come and pull the wretched thing over my head.
Wandering around forever with my face covered by a dress that's too small not
being an option. This also helps the shop out. I'm more likely
to buy online if I'm confident an item will fit.
Vanity sizing is also annoying.

14. But in some shops I have gone down a dress size. Yes, a whole dress
size! Sadly, this is not due to diet or exercise but because someone
decided a 14 should now be a 12. Probably in the hope that people are
more likely to purchase if they like the size on the label. And they like
12 better than 14. Whilst this may help the retailer's bottom line, it's not
helping mine. Brain thinks it has lost weight so celebrates
with chocolate. Then brain gets annoyed when it goes into another shop and
finds this is not true. Or existing clothes are snug due to chocolate
eating. Seriously, retailers, no one is fooled. Stop it.
I hate this!! Right now with a very small child in tow, I dont have time to try clothes on in stores, so to get them home and find they dont fit is annoying!! #binkylinky

DeleteI totally agree. I took 3 items of the same size into a changing room last week and they all fit differently. I have a whole gamut of sizes in my wardrobe but I'm pretty sure I don't gain or lose 3 dress sizes overnight. I just want some conformity! #poclo

DeleteIt's even more confusing when you HAVE changed a size... because now I really have no idea what I really am. Also when you buy clothes cut on vintage blocks so you go UP two sizes. I love it when I just buy actual vintage stuff because it's all done by bust / waist / hip measurement. Causes me no "too fat" stress and is actually accurate. Why can't all women's clothes be sold that way?!

DeleteAnd don't talk to me about the "special" mirrors in the changing rooms...they are actually called changing rooms because your shape magically changes in them not because you get changed in them! I have recently moved to South Africa from the UK and it is fun and games here because I have NO IDEA what size I am according to local sizes so whenever I want to buy anything I end up trying on about 4 different versions of the same item...#effitfriday

DeleteI have no idea what size I am in France but when I was in the UK recently I completely failed to get jeans that fitted. All the 12s were far too tight (so I thought one too many croissants was to blame) but all the14s hung off me. Just WHERE was I supposed to buy jeans that fit me?
ReplyDeleteOh yes! The best shop depends on your shape. I only buy jeans from Fat Face as I know they'll fit. Jeans shopping is sole destroying!
DeleteAnother reason why it is sometimes easier to be a guy. Extra large, on sale, sold.

DeleteSizing drives me crazy it is so vastly different shop to shop and if you're online shopping, they often don't match the size guides they list on there either.

DeleteThis really annoys me too, and I have proof they are doing it in the form of several items from Topshop, purchased at varying times of my life, which are labelled as the same size in measurements but different sizes (e.g. from an 8 down to a 6, yet the same size). I wouldn't mind if they were upfront about it, or if the stores all had the same sizing, but they aren't and don't. Argh!

DeleteSo frustrating! I haven't bought any new clothes in a very long time, which helps... I bought my husband two pairs of jeans for Christmas - both in the same size from the same shop and one pair is a lot bigger than the other. I'm not sure if you'll find it reassuring to know that men face the same problem or not ;)
