Makeup

Despite what the cards and the birth certificate say ...

One of the nicer things about announcing to people that I'm having a rather big birthday was being told they didn't believe me.  Although I suspect the person who said they thought I was in my mid-thirties was over doing it slightly.  But I'll still take it!

I've shared some of the obvious fashion age giveaways, but there are some beauty ones too. All the talk of "fighting the signs of ageing" strikes me as unhelpful as it turns it into a A Thing to be scared of.  But it isn't.  It's part of life and inevitable.  But I still want to look good.  By looking good, I mean like my best me.  Or the best me under the circumstances.
  • Hands.  Lined, dry hands make you look older so apply hand cream regularly.  You could also wear gloves whilst doing household chores, but I never have.
  • Lips.  When you're young, lips look plump, pink and smooth.  As you get older they become thinner and drier.  Drink lots of water, don't lick them too often or wear too much lip balm.  A light, glossy lipstick in rose, red or pink looks younger than a matte, opaque and deeply coloured one.
  • Pigmentation spots.  I have these and try to control them with products and sunscreen.  The only way to get rid of them completely is laser treatment.  No chance!
  • Skin.  Young skin is bouncy and plump.  Older skin can be lined and dry, but a good skin care routine helps fake some of that.  I'm still experimenting with products to keep my skin hydrated, but have tried various retinols, exfoliants, oil and anti-aging serums, creams and sunscreen in the hope of finding The One That I Can Afford.  Lifestyle also makes a difference. Eating healthily, exercise and living right.  There are also injections and surgeries.  The problem with those seems to be that for the one person who has excellent work, there are a lot more who look a bit odd.
  • Neck, jaw and decolletage.  The neck and jawline can get saggy and lined so apply your face products there as well.  There's no need to buy special products.
  • Eyes.  An eye cream helps keep skin hydrated.
  • Brows.  As you age you lose hair, including from your brows.  Longer thicker brows look more youthful than thin short ones so, if you're good at that sort of thing, pencil your brows and extend the tail just a little longer than the natural length.  (I'm not so I leave well alone).
Do people sometimes think you're younger than you are?  What things do you take to tackle the physical signs of ageing?

Good post! People often think I'm older than I am (I blame smoking, don't judge me!), I like to think it's the way I carry myself but I'm pretty sure it's these tell tale lines I seem to be in ownership of! Hope you have a lovely Birthday. 50 is fabulous so I hear! xx

Having started smoking at university and only stopping when I left, I remember how hard it was giving up and won't judge! Thank you for your birthday wishes

I get the opposite they always think I am older I am horrible at taking care of my skin etc. I really need to do something now that I am in my 30s I know I should have started in my 20s but hopefully not too late in the skin care department. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again this week for another great round of #sharewithme

It's never too late to start with a skincare routine. I'll be posting some ideas of how to create one that works within your life and doesn't cost a small fortune soon. Thank you for hosting each week
