As I have a big birthday today, I thought I'd look back on what life has taught me. I did think about writing one of those life lessons per year posts, but there are a lot of years and I wasn't sure who'd give up first, me or you!
Instead, here's two life lessons per decade. (Yeah, I know, you came here and I made you do maths!):
- Choose your words and actions carefully. Once they're out there, you can't take them back. But if you do get it wrong, admit it and apologise. Attack the issue, not the person.
- Don't easily offend. Don't be easily offended. Life seems much happier if you assume that people are thoughtless or forgetful rather than deliberately unkind.
- Don't be a jerk. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
- This too shall pass. You're stronger than you know.
- It's not all about money, success, things, numbers or hashtags. It's about people.
- Eat your fruit and vegetables. Exercise. Makeup and clothes doesn't make you beautiful. They make you feel like yourself, but better.
- Friends turn up in the most unexpected places.
- Finding your soul mate is the best gift ever.
- Family first.
- And one from my friend Erin, "Always be yourself. Unless you suck".
You will die one day, but there's so much to do first. Living on this wonderful, weird world is incredible! Go and have some fun! After you've had some celebratory cake ...
I have no idea what plans Rev T and the Tubblet have for my birthday, but I need to get up and find out ...! I'll let you know.
Well one thing - you don't look your age that's for sure! I agree with what you say - don't be the sort of person who is easily offended - we could all do with some tolerance in our lives. Let the little things go over your head if you can as life is too short to spend it being permanently stressed. #binkylinky

DeleteHi Mrs, Tubbs, the one big positive about passing the 40th birthday mark is, yes, we maybe older (I remember a time when I thought anyone past the age of 40 must have been born in the olden times), but look at the wisdom we collect along the way! There is not one life lesson in your list that we all shouldn't learn.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a memorable birthday (and for all the right reasons.

DeleteYou look fab at 50! Happy Birthday! I used to cringe at every year I would get older but now I embrace my wisdom and all the grey hair that goes with it. Well actually I dye the hair but I know that grey that lingers. Love your life lessons. Agree with them all ....especially the last one. Thank you for sharing with #momsterslink. Hope to see you again today!
