In the words of Faithless. Fortunately, that isn't true. I'm lucky enough that normally I'm asleep shortly after my head hits the pillow.
The time winding down just before bed is one of my favourite times of the day. I love relaxing with Rev T after the Tubblet has gone to bed, thinking over the day's events whilst preparing for a (hopefully, good) night's rest.
Now the Tubblet is older, her bed time routine consists of making sure her school bag is packed for the next day, all her homework is done, she has her weekly bus pass and we've got her phone so she can't text her mates when she should be asleep.
I try and calm my mind down before bed so I'm not lying awake at 3am thinking about work, family stuff, blog ideas or other random nonsense. Some nights I'll read my book or some blogs. Other times I'll watch TV, potter round the house or do housework. I need to be better at switching the tech off at a sensible time.

Then, after checking I've got everything I need for the morning, off upstairs. The success of these checks depend on the level of tiredness. Sometimes the house wakes to the sounds of the Great Train Pass Hunt. Other times it's the great wail of School Stuff That's Needed Right Now That's Never Been Mentioned Before.
The upstairs routine starts by brushing my teeth and washing my face to remove make up. I use Superdrug Vitamin E Micellar Water to get my makeup off, then double cleanse with SuperFacialist Skin Renew Cleansing Oil and Calming Creamy Cleanser. (Updated skincare routine post to follow when I get round to writing it). Then I head into our room to prepare for bed. The first thing I do is take off my bra (w00t!) and put on my nightwear. Then I dive into bed and try to claim as much of the duvet as I can before Rev T gets there.

We've got a strict bedtime routine which works a treat and I'm in bed - no messing. My mummy's evening quiet time is important for her sanity! However it's the mornings that are a problem for us...I'm a 5am riser!!! Eek! #PoCoLo ..now I can't get that Faithless tune out of my head ;)
ReplyDeleteVery sensible! Never underestimate the value of grownup time. 5am! Now that is hardcore ... Although I get up at 6am so I can be at work on time. :(
DeleteFunnily enough Ross and I have just spoken about altering our bedtime routine. We have agreed no more iPhones/iPads in the bedroom at night. We have both agreed to do a bit more reading and have a bit more downtime a bit earlier! I hope your routine works. Thank you for linking to #PoCoLo x
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good plan, I hope it works for you. Our routine is working well so far, but I'm terrible for just one more chapter ...
