You've posted and texted to #SaveSyriasChildren. You understand the difference between a migrant and a refugee.
You may, that's may, feel that's not enough in the face of, in the words of Jeremy over at Thirsty Daddy:
"... a humanitarian crisis of staggering proportions. The U.N. estimates that over 220,000 people have died. Seven million have been displaced, with half of those being children. People are fleeing en mass for Europe, straining those countries capabilities to feed and care for them. It’s estimated that 2,000 refugees a day try to make the trip from the Turkish coast to one of the eastern Greek Islands, hoping for safety for themselves and their families. The Turkish Coast Guard says that it has rescued more than 42,00 from the Aegean Sea this year. 2,800 have died or disappeared attempting to make the crossing.

Of the 366,000 estimated to have made the journey to Europe, many continue to be held in refugee camps while they await word on where or when they will be allowed to relocate. Authorities are overwhelmed and unable to continue handling the influx. These people need clothing, food, shelter, and medicine. Demand is outpacing supply".

Here are some extra things to do if you'd like to. No pressure though. If you feel that you've already done your bit, want to support other worthy causes or feel these ideas aren't right for you, that's okay:
- Donate to one of the many charities helping refugees.
- Organisations like Home for Good are gathering names of people willing to offer a room to a refugee.
- Make your voice heard by signing petitions asking Parliament to debate the treatment of refugees; writing to your MP or going on marches or rallies.
- #factsnotfear. There's a lot of noise on social media about this issue and it's easy to be swayed by negative messages and stereotypes. The Great Critique has a great article correcting popular rumours about Syrian Refugees. The Red Cross will answer any questions sent to getthestorystraight@redcross.org.uk.
Sharing with all these great Linkys
This is a subject I feel really strongly about at the moment. I've written a post about it too because the crisis itself and the appalling attitude of certain people who don't think the refugees are entitled to help just really concerns me. I have donated money and signed the petition. Also getting some clothing and shoes together to donate to a local collection point. Still doesn't feel like enough though. I just wish others could show some basic human compassion to these poor people :(
ReplyDeleteVery useful post x
Agree totally. Off to read your post now ... Thank you for commenting
DeleteThis is really useful. I have donated and wondered if it felt like enough really. I didn't get too involved in the campaign as it didn't feel too right with the other bloggers. I feel so sad for them and I think donating some clothes is a great idea xx #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteI did the blogger campaign, but only because I'd posted about it already and felt it was consistent with what I'd already said. If it hadn't been, I wouldn't have for the same reasons you didn't. Thank you for commenting
Deletegreat post. Glad I could help
ReplyDeleteGlad you did, thank you!
DeleteAnother great post on this, and useful advice and encouragement to keep people active in campaigning and helping. That Great Critique article is also brilliant - let's fight the spread of misinformation!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely comment and the share. Have a lovely week
DeleteI read the post you are referring to, and until that point, the sheer enormity of the problem hadn't actually hit me. I had no idea the staggering number of people involved. Great post with some really useful resources for people wanting to help :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes

It's like the entire population of a couple of counties left and headed towards France or something ... It's truly mind-boggling. Thank you for hosting and commenting
DeleteSo glad you aired this with #mummyandus, such an important message and let's do all we can
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting each week :)
DeleteIt is so easy to just keep going on with our normal lives over here but really, there are some horrible things happening and I put myself in their position with a husband and 3 year old son. I'd be scared out of my wits. Those poor people. Thank you for sharing this very useful information and I will be sure to share it on my blog Facebook page.
ReplyDeleteDitto. The three of us wouldn't know what to do for the best and it would be so scary. Thank you for sharing
DeleteIts easy to just ignore and get on with our lives isn't it. Thank you for sharing the information!! #myfavouritepost
ReplyDeleteThank you, I just wish it wasn't necessary
DeleteReally helpful signposting, thank you! #TwinklyTuesday

DeleteGreat post on an important topic. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteBacking the cause 100%. The official response from governments and aid organisations has at best been disappointing. Glad that we as a community can lend our voice of support. #mummy&us
ReplyDeleteThank you for the support and the comment. Seeing the lack of compassion towards people who've been left with nothing just makes me so angry!
DeleteThank you so much for this post. I was just thinking the same of how may I be more of help. Please may I also spread the word from my good friend who have organised a professional photography session. All proceed goes to #SaveSyriasChildren. You can find more info here: https://goo.gl/euSSzr What a great idea this is! :) #MyFavouritePost
ReplyDeleteWord spread, thank you for sharing. If you're in Dalston on 3 October, then go take part! Shared this on FB.
DeleteThis is a lovely post to do! :)
ReplyDeleteMy friend shared a link to an article written by our newspaper here (The Age) that had a list of ways we could help even from Australia. While it's not as big in Brisbane as it is in Sydney, there's a chance to host or attend a welcome dinner for refugees and I think that's a great thing! Once our toddler's feeling better (he's been quite sick this winter!) I'm going to sign up for it :)
Away From The Blue Blog
That sounds brilliant and great fun. Hope the toddler's better soon so you can take part.
DeleteIt's heartbreaking to see people suffering like this. I wish the world was a kinder place! #Mummy&Us Love Noah & the Girls
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteThis is a great post. I think that there is still a lot that can be done, and a lot of people favour direct action over simply raising awareness x #anythinggoes
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteGreat post. It is so easy to just carry on with our lives and forget about the awfulness of what is happening. Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday

DeleteI am truly hating the dialogue surrounding these migrants. When did our world become so hostile to people in need? Here in the US the comments are towards the "we can't let them in because terrorists will infiltrate". At the end of the day these are still people in need! If you want to crate more terrorists then don't offer them any support. In the end loving our fellow man and showing them compassion will win out.
ReplyDeleteIt is depresses me beyond words, our society has become so selfish. Whilst I know good will triumph over evil, the getting there is no fun! Thank you for commenting
